Chris Thompson
Engineer, Activist, Marketer, & Business Driver
At the end of the day, regardless of what industry I’m in or which project I’m working on, I fundamentally see problems through the eyes of an engineer. Engineers see problems as just another obstacle to climb over, temporary setbacks as just another learning opportunity. The main talents I bring to the table with any professional team are creative solutions, standardized procedures, event management, and process optimization.
My professional background began as a Biological Engineering student at Purdue University, where I was also the Lead Researcher of an undergraduate genetic engineering research group. Through my engineering education at Purdue, I learned some of the most important and valuable engineering traits for business: creation of repeatable systems and processes, adhering to strict guidelines and design standards, data analysis and research, and developing effective products with measurable results and strategic growth.
In addition to engineering, I have also been a long-time grassroots cannabis activist with NORML, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. I first started the Purdue NORML chapter in 2013, with the goal of de-stigmatizing cannabis and marijuana advocacy at the university. I went on to found five other college NORML chapters in the Midwest in 2014, earned an internship at the National NORML offices in 2015, and was awarded NORML’s Student Activism Award in 2016. I then continued my activism by founding Las Vegas NORML in 2017 and serving as Executive Director to oversee the strategic growth of the chapter as it launched.
I have also had the opportunity to hold several positions in a corporate marketing organization through my time with Freedom Leaf Inc. I served as the Director of Digital Marketing, overseeing our online content, studying consumer trends, and boosting community engagement, as well as coordinating programmatic CPC and CPM ad buys across multiple digital ad networks. I later held the title of the Director of Marketing, responsible for creating and launching new CBD product lines, designing new product packaging to federal and local regulatory standards, creating graphic and video marketing content, and designing sales materials to support the sales team.
Most recently, I have served as the Chief Marketing Officer of Freedom Leaf Inc., directly responsible for the entire marketing division across our multiple CBD brands, media platforms, cultivation facility, extraction lab, and vaporizer accessory line. In this executive operations capacity, I am responsible for the coordinated marketing efforts across our portfolio of brands and properties, collaborating with each team to solve workflow issues and quarterback projects. Through this role I have also gained executive-level management experience, specifically regarding conferences with senior executives, meetings with investors and high-profile clients, and producing annual budgets, expense reports, and management organization charts for the management team.
Through a unique combination of an engineer’s background, an activist’s passion, a marketer’s creativity, and an executive’s business drive, I pride myself on being a capable strategic asset to any organization I’m a part of.
